Dave
Grogan: Biography
David
began his quest for the "perfect body" when he was just 13
years old as he prepared for the rigors of high school football. At
age 17, he could bench press 375 lbs. While playing football at Oxon
Hill High School, he earned honors as an All-County football star,
but soon found that it wasn't enough. His desire to take his fitness
ability to the next level led him to compete as a natural
bodybuilder. In 1981, he would go on to capture several teenage
titles including Teenage Mr. DC and Teenage Mr. USA.
Upon graduation from
high school, David took a hiatus from bodybuilding to serve in the
U. S. Marine Corps. Upon his return, he enrolled in Bowie State
University, where he received a football scholarship. In 1990, he
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology with a minor in
Criminal Justice. Following graduation, he attended the Federal Law
Enforcement Training Center, where he graduated as a Deputy U. S.
Marshal.
David returned to
natural bodybuilding and soon learned that bodybuilding was a much
more complex sport
than it had been in previous years. He also realized that it would
not be an easy task to excel in a sport that was relatively
unpublished. Despite the odds, he captured many titles and awards.
In 1999, David was elevated to pro status after becoming the Overall
Champion in the NABF North Carolina Super Natural Competition. David
was also named the Overall Champion and Gold Medalist in the World
Police Games in the same year. David continued to blaze the trail by
claiming the Open Heavyweight Winner at the 2000 NGA American
Nationals. In June of 2001, he captured the Gold Medal in the Men's
Senior Heavyweight Class in the World Police/Fire Games held in
Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2002, Dave graced the stage once again at
the 11th Annual INBF Natural Atlantic Coast Bodybuilding &
Fitness Championship by taking 1st place in the Men's Open
Heavyweight Class. Then in September of 2002, David claimed the Best
Poser Award as well as captured 2nd Place in the Men's Open Tall
Class at the ANBC Pennsylvania Bodybuilding Classic. At the ANBC
Nationals, Dave took 3rd in the Men's Open Tall Class.
In 1991, David
received his certification as a personal trainer and consultant at
the prestigious Kenneth Cooper Clinic in Dallas, Texas. As a health
and fitness consultant, David has diligently fought to help
spectators and aspiring competitors to differentiate between natural
bodybuilding and the more celebrated chemical bodybuilding. He is a
natural, drug-free bodybuilder, who believes that a clean diet,
proper vitamin/protein supplements and intense and consistent
workouts are all that is necessary to be a successful bodybuilder.
In addition, as a competitive bodybuilder, David believes in setting
high goals, staying focused and being totally committed to
accomplishing his mission. He is convinced that obstacles are only
seen when you take your eyes off your goals. David intends to
continue competing as long as he is physically capable primarily
because of his love for the sport. In a continual effort to educate
others on the value of proper nutrition and exercise, David holds
seminars and often speaks at schools during their career days.
David has promoted
natural bodybuilding shows since June of 2000. Thus far, his record
for successful shows steadily increases with each year. His shows
consistently attract competitors from all over the country. Much of
the marketing prosperity of his shows can be attributed to David's
reputation as a successful and competitive natural bodybuilder as
well as an all-around nice guy! David continues to work with the
U.S. Marshals Service daily. He has a young daughter, Davienne, and
they reside in Clinton, Maryland.
